The TCA9801 is a dual-channel bidirectional buffer for I2C bus and SMBus/PMBus systems. It provides bidirectional level translation between low voltages (down to 0.8V) and higher voltages (1.65V to 3.6V). The TCA9801 has an internal current source on the B side of the device, so no external pull-up resistor is required on the B side. The current source also provides improved rise time and ultra-low power consumption. The TCA9801 is able to provide true buffering (rather than pass-FET solutions) without using static voltage offsets or incremental offsets. This means that the VOL on the A and B sides of the TCA9801 is very low (approximately 0.2V), which helps eliminate communication problems caused by fixed VIL thresholds. Another important feature of the TCA9801 is that there is no power sequencing requirement or power supply dependency. VCCA can be greater than, less than, or equal to VCCB. This allows system designers to use the TCA9801 flexibly.
